The Ruskin VR Experience

Ruskin VR Project

At my time at ISS Innovation Hub Lancs we joined forces with Professor Sandra Kemp, the esteemed curator of the Ruskin Museum and Research Centre, for a transformative project. The Ruskin Project focuses on celebrating the legacy of John Ruskin by utilising Virtual and Augmented Reality (VR/AR) and Artifical Intelligence (AI) to provide a unique platform for appreciating and learning about his work.

In this video, Sandra and the team, including myself, discuss the importance of preserving history and legacies by bringing them into the modern world through technologies like Virtual Reality.

My Contributions to The Ruskin Project

In my time working on The Ruskin Project I developed several VR experiences. These experiences were first invisioned by us at the ISS Innovation Hub but were later critiqued and adjusted Sandra Kemp to fit in line with her vision of Ruskin.

I enjoyed working with Sandra to use my extensive knowledge of what was possible, within our bounds as a team, and within the world of Virtual Reality. Sandra also helped me in discovering what it’s like to listen and realize someone’s artistic vision.

Some of the aspects I worked on:

  • VR Gameplay Mechanics
  • Designing and 3D modelling the “Cave” experience
  • Decal shaders specific for presenting artwork
  • Audio manager
